The Friend Circle is a passion-driven social initiative dedicated to the mission of nurturing support systems for girls from underserved communities to facilitate their personal, academic, and professional growth. It aims to do so by building and sustaining a network of committed peer mentors who will guide students from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds through their educational and professional journeys.
Beginning with the development of an original 8-part handbook as a training resource to guide students in mentorship roles and responsibilities, The Friend Circle seeks to cultivate a volunteer network, composed of interested and conscientious candidates as peer mentors, through conducting continuous outreach and regular sessions. The Friend Circle aims to pair the trained mentors with mentees from underserved communities via a student-action network to ensure that the mentees are able to seek the help they need to thrive personally and academically. The Friend Circle hopes that such mentoring relationships inspire both the mentor and the mentee reciprocally. In addition to this, the initiative also strives to disseminate a series of children’s storybooks focused on the narratives of aspirational women in order to instill resilience and perseverance in young female readers and strengthen their resolve towards pursuing professional success. To further expand its impact, The Friend Circle also looks forward to organizing regular expert-led workshops to continually motivate and boost the morale of young girls by helping them connect with the role models they need to be inspired to work for their dreams.
